Key Outlook Folders

In Outlook there are four important locations to look for email

  • Inbox/Focused - this is where good email directly emailed to you should go.
  • Inbox/Other - marketing emails, somethings that might be considered spam.  Reporting these as spam/phish on these is optional.
  • Junk - spam email messages that the spam filter is 50/50 on so it lets the end user make the determination.  If they are junk, no actions is needed by you.
  • Quarantine - emails that the system determined to be phishing or impersonation detection.  This is not an email box but a daily email alert (if any messages are caught) that you can release if needed


Focused and Other Inbox

To move messages between Focused and Other right click on the message and select Move to Other or Move to Focused.  Your goal should be each morning only the messages in your Focused Inbox are what you are needed to be informed on or take action on.  All the other marketing, nice to know, or things that maybe haven't made it your Focused Inbox are in the Other Inbox.

Mobile Recommendations

For iOS users we recommend you use Outlook to have a similar experience to Outlook on your PC.  You can continue to use iOS Mail if you prefer but none of the Focused and Other Inbox settings apply as they are still one folder in the system.


Outlook Mobile

Sign in your name@royalelect.com email address and your computer password.  This will automatically configure your Email and Calendar.  If prompted to allow Notifications press Yes.  Notice at the top there is the Focused/Other toggle at the top similar to the Outlook desktop experience.


There are a few Outlook settings you should double check.

  • Press the Inbox button on the top left
  • Press the Gear icon on the bottom left to get to Settings
  • Scroll down to Notifications
  • Recommend that only Focused Inbox is checked.
  • If you don't see Focused/Other in the mail Inbox go to Settings > and turn on Focused Inbox


iOS Mail

We still want to configure iOS Mail as some third party applications that email/share things will only open the native iOS Mail app but we also need to configure the Notifications properly so we don't get unnecessary alerts.  Open Settings, scroll down to Mail, click on Notifications, and turn off Allow Notifications.


Spam/Phishing Outlook Add-in

If messages make it to your Inbox but they are spam, unsolicited marketing, or attempting to impersonate someone you can report those messages.  In Outlook on the desktop open the message and press the Report phishing button.  On the mobile app open the message and right under the timestamp press the 3 dots and press Report phishing.  Both will prompt you to select a reason why this is spam so please select the one that is most accurate and press Submit.
